If I let the package creation fail and then make that empty directory I ca=
n make the package. But after that I get serious errors like:

client_check_incoming_message: received message with mid \d+ with no matchi=
 ng send record.
SMB Signature verification failed on incoming packet!
Server packet had invalid SMB signature
Error in dskattr: Server packet had invalid SMB signature!

I see one person complaining about the same thing on an Unbuntu forum. Hi=
s notes show he's running 3.0.28a and didn't have the problem before an upg=
rade. If I do the suggested fix (set
 "client signing =3D no" and=20
"client use spnego =3D no") then other machines (not the same ones that gav=
e me the above errors) give:

cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it.

For me 3.0.26anb4 works fine against the same Windows servers. I can't fi=
nd any bug reports at Samba.org that match these symptoms, but their search=
  engine seriously sucks.
