 this should not happen at all, because configure scripts are run using
 ${CONFIG_SHELL}, which on Solaris is /bin/ksh, whose built-in test(1)
 does support -e.
 
 I guess the script isn't being run via ${CONFIG_SHELL} for some
 reason.
