 Thanks for the suggestion, Johnny.  grep indeed found 
 "-mtune=pentiumpro" in the first 4 lines of config/host.cf.  Full 
 of hope, I deleted these 4 instances but, alas, the error message 
 when trying to build games/tanked is still the same.  More ideas 
 welcome.
