 Sorry for the long delay.  We're in the process of setting up a second
 Origin 200 server, also running IRIX 6.5.  What my colleague Dan and I
 have discovered is that the Origin 200 we did all our tests on had two
 copies of gcc, 2.8.1 and 2.95.3, and we believe there was a conflict
 with how these compilers were installed.  On the new IRIX installation
 pkgsrc-2005Q1 works very well.  I think that the PR should probably be
 closed.
