I am having a lot of trouble with qemu VMs and timekeeping. For example, ntpd and chronyd often do not synchronize, even when they do on the hosts.

I know there have been discussions about this, but I have yet to understand the full implications and the solution.

Could the issue be the clock frequency on the host? If so, how do I get HZ=1000? Are there special qemu options that are needed? Something else? Is there are clear description of how to diagnose and solve this somewhere that I have not yet found?

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Brook
