Thanks.  They do; I indented to quote.

That makes sense; that was sort of left from editing.
This was the problem, and removing the final \ made it work.

With Michael's kern.maxproc hint, I've set that higher too.

I can see how the parser has a bug like this.

I did expect that .db would be read regardless of time.

I have removed my .db file.

It seems like there are two bugs;

  lack of a trailing newline causes an entry to be silently ignored

  cap_mkdb doesn't warn when there is a malformed entry
