Thanks, just did that, for 1080p (h264 & h265) it helped a lot (though
I know nothing about video, etc, and had no idea what value was best for
the arg to -sws, so I just used 0). I have enough raw cpu for most things.
They both looked entirely watchable.
It didn't really help for a 1920p h265 though (I'd have to hunt to find a
h264 at that resolution, those files tend to be huge). It might have been
better, very hard to tell, but the video was still way behind the audio.
And you're right, it is off topic, but thanks again anyway.

ps: I don't have xine installed, and while I do have mpv, I've never used
it, so would have to learn how - which I should do one day - but too much
for this quick test.
