[generally, these questitons belong on pkgsrc-users]

pkgsrc defaults to 3.10 now, and will only use 2.7 if the package
doesn't support 3.  You almost certainly have 3.9 because last quarter
that was the default.

See pkgsrc/lang/python/pyversion.mk for the details.  It starts off with
docs and then moves to code.
