So...not even zebras, but unicorns? Don't see how that can happen.
A dozen standalone builds (ie. not using pkgsrc) of mlterm-3.9.2
showed no such failures. Nor a handful of programs repeatedly opening
and closing /dev/ptmx at the same time...

Worth a PR, but, against which component?
