No, there is nothing surprising when fetching pkgsrc via git.  As soon
as you know the very basics of git and pkgsrc, you're ready to go.

The git repository lags behind for 2 or 3 hours, but that's it.

There were some outages lately in which the git repository was not
updated for a few days, but that happens seldom and is easy to detect:
If the last commit to pkgsrc is older than a day, something is wrong.
