qemu/amd64 virtio weirdness NetBSD 7.0/amd64

Hi

I'm using qemu 2.5 and for performance reasons, I'm wanting to use the virtio drivers for the hard disk and the network.

After I install NetBSD, the default kernel (the one installed by the installer) resets when I try to boot from it. I've copied the kernel from the cd and was able to boot from that.
I'm using the cd /kernel as my kernel; should I try to remake generic and run from that?

Thanks for any insight you can give me
