Re: Downloading NetBSD - Too complicated ?

The idea that netbsd "is directed to a different kind of user" is really... Limiting. :-) and a little disappointing to me... Anyone should be welcome, noobs included. If someone wants to just make a quick download to give netbsd a try, go ahead, give it try, why not? Ask stupid questions, help us on testing, go do some maintenance on the site, etc. If there's a genuine interest in making netbsd better and better, the community should get more people on board, not only "high class devs".

I'm not an active dev, but I'd just answer zafer: "this is a great idea! Could you elaborate and help us do that, I mean, write a proposition about how to apply pcbsd downloading dynamic into netbsd site? Maybe contacting someone from the pcbsd project to help out with some insights...? By the way, thank you zafer, and welcome aboard!"

Why be such a jerk and reject the idea...? :-/ don't get it, it's like peeing against the wind... :-)

Hello NetBSD-Users,

A couple of days ago I stumbled across the announcement of PCBSD 10
and gave it a shot.
Downloading was easy and fast, because it utilizes a CDN.
At that point, I crosschecked with www.netbsd.org and was embarrassed, how
complicated it is to get a copy of NetBSD.

Here is the click path to get a copy of NetBSD, starting from www.netbsd.org:

1.: Click on "Get NetBSD" link
2.: Click on FTP link
3.: Click on one of the mirrors
4.: Click on a version, e.g. 6.1.3
5.: Click on images
6.: Click on an iso file

Six clicks and a lot of confusion. You are lost at any point, if you
don't know exactly what you are looking for.

Additionally, after clicking on the "Get NetBSD" link, you are presented with
four additional links, which is: Bittorrent, FTP, FTP and HTTP.
At this point it is not immediately obvious where to click on and at
least after selecting
an ftp or http mirror, you are lost in the directory and version
jungle of NetBSD.

We need to simplify the way to download an image.
In comparison, at www.freebsd.org, you get your iso within 3 clicks.

Cheers,
Zafer
