Re: Downloading NetBSD - Too complicated ?

A couple of days ago I stumbled across the announcement of PCBSD 10

Downloading was easy and fast, because it utilizes a CDN.
At that point, I crosschecked with www.netbsd.org and was embarrassed, how
complicated it is to get a copy of NetBSD.

Here is the click path to get a copy of NetBSD, starting from www.netbsd.org:

1.: Click on "Get NetBSD" link
2.: Click on FTP link
3.: Click on one of the mirrors
4.: Click on a version, e.g. 6.1.3
5.: Click on images
6.: Click on an iso file

Six clicks and a lot of confusion. You are lost at any point, if you
don't know exactly what you are looking for.

Additionally, after clicking on the "Get NetBSD" link, you are presented with
four additional links, which is: Bittorrent, FTP, FTP and HTTP.
At this point it is not immediately obvious where to click on and at
least after selecting
an ftp or http mirror, you are lost in the directory and version
jungle of NetBSD.

We need to simplify the way to download an image.
In comparison, at www.freebsd.org, you get your iso within 3 clicks.

You try to compare a download procedure for "a user friendly desktop Operating System" and NetBSD. I don't think they are on the same playground.

You miscounted the clicks. If you read the two list items under the "Downloading NetBSD 6.1.3" header on the "How to get NetBSD" page and want to download an iso file, why do you click on the second "FTP" link?

I see no confusion in the download procedure. If some newcomer doesn't know exactly what he is looking for, he should ask on a mail-list or irc.

The directory structure of ftp or http mirrors is IMO clean and well made. What aspect of it makes it a jungle to you - what change do you propose?

I think that NetBSD can also achieve a 3-clicks download procedure for an iso file, e.g. if there will be a "Download ISO of latest NetBSD release" link on the homepage and then you just choose a port and then mirror (with direct link to the iso). But I don't think this helps newcomers in adopting NetBSD.
