Emacsen segfaulting on startup

Hi,

I have quite clean install of NetBSD 6.1.2 (not an upgrade). It is a slower machine, so I installed binary packages. Here is what I have:

emacs24-24.3nb7 GNU editing macros (editor)
xemacs-21.5.27nb20 *BETA* XEmacs text editor version 21.5.27

both emacsen will crash, incredibly early. With or without graphics. Emacs crashes even at "emacs --help" !

(gdb) r -nw
Starting program: /usr/pkg/bin/emacs -nw

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

a ldd shows all library as resolved.

The run in xemacs is very similar, just different addresses:

I'm astonished that using binary packages doesn't work... I have a custom kernel (needed to tweak some PCI options to get network & X11 to work) but from 6.1.2 sources.
