Thought at least USB mouse should have worked. It doesn't. So the problem
is not touchpad specific.

Badly stuck. Please advise some way to revert to last stable version. Do I
need to check out a past pkgsrc snapshot?

Alternatively, would native x11 work?

Which of the two options is better (or what are pros and cons)?

But in either of the above options, wouldn't I need to rebuild lots of
packages?
