watch the number of mbuf clusters (with vmstat -m this is mclpl) and check
that you're not reaching the limit.

Well it happened again. I previously increased NMBCLUSTERS value but
anyway it seems not related. Here are the values for vmstat -m|grep mclpl

mclpl 2048 685 0 0 347 0 347 347 4 2048 4

As always, the machine becomes unresponsive, still able to handle
established connections but no more. I had a serial console attached to
it and was able to run a couple of commands, dmesg|tail showed nothing,
neither syslog. Not a single information about what's happening when the
freeze occurs.
