Mutt "No authenticators available" error on using its smtp

I get above error if I use mutt's smtp.

I have built mutt with smtp and sasl options using mutt-devel package in
pkgsrc current.

Following are things I did after some web searches on this:

Built and installed cyrus-sasl afresh from pkgsrc.

Following is pluginviewer output. However I don't know what to look for in
it.

No server side SASL mechanisms installed
Installed auxprop mechanisms are:
sasldb
List of auxprop plugins follows
Plugin "sasldb" ,       API version: 4
        supports store: yes

Installed SASL (client side) mechanisms are:
EXTERNAL
List of client plugins follows
Plugin "EXTERNAL" [loaded],     API version: 4
        SASL mechanism: EXTERNAL, best SSF: 0
        security flags: NO_ANONYMOUS|NO_PLAINTEXT|NO_DICTIONARY
        features: WANT_CLIENT_FIRST|PROXY_AUTHENTICATION


Would appreciate help in resolving this.
