Installing packages: some do, some don't

Hi,

Now I can install packages by pkg_add, but for some reason some install 
and some apparently don't. For instance:

pkg_add -v odt2txt

installs quickly. But e.g. with firefox, gimp, octave, evince it's just 
waiting and seemingly doing nothing. Any idea why?
