FYI rdist is very old / limited /buggy I switched to rdist6 years
ago, Only problem here on i386 (but not amd64), is files must be <
2G .  Personaly I use FreeBSD where there's a port for rdist6, so
if not already available on NetBSD (I havent looked) take the FreeBSD
one & tweak if necessary.

You'll prob. also get someone saying rsync is another nice tool,
probably is, horses for courses, a bit like which beer is best, but
pretty much a no brainer to dump rdist, & install rdist6, may not
remove all problems, but a lot, & adds some extra functionality.
