Check if the DVD is a double layer type. For example it would say something
like DVD+R DL on the disk. If it is, then check your DVD drive has support for
reading double layer discs. You can use sysutils/cdrtools package to find out
capabilities of your drive:

 cdrecord -v dev=/dev/rcd0d -checkdrive
....
Profile: DVD+R/DL
Profile: DVD+R
Profile: DVD+RW
Profile: DVD-R/DL layer jump recording
Profile: DVD-R/DL sequential recording
Profile: DVD-RW sequential recording
Profile: DVD-RW restricted overwrite
Profile: DVD-RAM
Profile: DVD-R sequential recording
Profile: DVD-ROM
Profile: CD-RW
Profile: CD-R
Profile: CD-ROM
Profile: Removable Disk

Also check what filesystem your DVD contains. I've had issues reading UDF DVDs
on NetBSD.
