Hi,

I have recently acquired an IBM Intellistation Z Pro, now running 5.0.
The box has two 'cd' devices, an IBM DVDRAM drive and an IBM CD-ROM
drive, the problem being that only the CD-ROM is reliably found on boot,
although both are invariably found by the BIOS.

Do you know if it's related to having a media in the drive or not ?

You could try setting atadebug_mask to 0x10 and see what the kernel
says when it doesn't find the drive.

Hi Manuel,

I resolved the problem by updating the BIOS. Although the BIOS did find both drives consistently the delay in finding the second (always the DVD-RAM drive) was apparently too long for the NetBSD-5.0 boot code.

Thanks for looking at this.
