It would be much better to work on Wine's configure.ac, such that autoconf
produces a working configure script.  Hacking the configure script itself
is akin to creating a binary patch, because any change to autoconf or
configure.ac will likely invalidate the patch.  

It *would* be nice to have a native Wine package, absolutely.  :-)
