tagged VLANs are supported over any ethernet interface, but eventually
with a reduced MTU.

No. etherip supports both ETHERCAP_VLAN_MTU and ETHERCAP_JUMBO_MTU, so it
should handle the extra 4 bytes of the vlan encap just fine.
