Re: NetBSD 4.0 and bnx NIC

Well, the only way to get that NIC working, and that's NetBSD getting suport for it in the kernel. That took a few years with the wireless ones. There's a possibility you could make your own kernel, if you are good at programming bits and bytes. I'd gave up before really trying.

Last time I'd got into a problem like that, I'd got the idea that the task is not to have that NIC working, but to have a NIC working. Printed out the hardware page for the actual NetBSD version, went to the computer store, and asked for a NIC which were on that list. The clerk searched for about ten minutes, and came up with an NIC that worked with no problem. It costed a little more, though.

Hi,

i just installed NetBSD 4.0 on our IBM HS-20 Blade Center directly on the
SAN. Worked like a charm (with FreeBSD i can only install 6.1, and also
need some tricks to do so...).
The only problem is the NIC.

dmesg output:

bnx0 at pci10 dev0 function0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000 BASE-SX
SerDes controllers are not supported!
bnx1 at pci12 dev0 function0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000 BASE-SX
SerDes controllers are not supported!

Is there a way to get this NIC working?

Cheers,

Axel
