The following reply was made to PR port-amd64/53406; it has been noted by GNATS.

Due to a configuration oversight on the build cluster, MKDEBUG was not
turned on for -8 builds upto 8.0 RC1.

The ISO images have been changed to no contain the debug sets though,
as this gets most of them down below the CD-ROM size shreshold.

The USB images (which have no such tight limit) include full debug info
now (this will be re-evaluated post 8.0 release).

Now a few ISOs for architectures with COMPAT files are still overflowing
the CD size. These are: evbarm* (no chance for CD, was that way in RC1
already) and amd64 (by a few MB).

For amd64 (and a few others architectures) I plan to switch compression
to xz, which reduces the size of the binary sets by ~40% and gives
 quite some space.

All of this has been the state for HEAD builds for a long time and nobody
complained - but then it is -current and most users probably update
from source or via manual download of the sets.

 Martin
