Power reset has now been done.
This time, bge0's phy found its media connections, but bge1
(where the cable is inserted) still didn't(!) Grep'ing for brg
and bge now gave me (with the 5.1_STABLE kernel):
bge0 at pci4 dev 0 function 0: Broadcom BCM5721 Gigabit Ethernet
bge0: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 16
bge0: ASIC BCM5750 B1 (0x4101), Ethernet address 00:11:25:22:6c:8e
bge0: setting short Tx thresholds
brgphy0 at bge0 phy 1: BCM5750 1000BASE-T media interface, rev. 0
brgphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto
bge1 at pci5 dev 0 function 0: Broadcom BCM5721 Gigabit Ethernet
bge1: interrupting at ioapic0 pin 17
bge1: ASIC BCM5750 B1 (0x4101), Ethernet address 00:11:25:22:6c:8f
bge1: setting short Tx thresholds
brgphy1 at bge1 phy 1: BCM5750 1000BASE-T media interface, rev. 0
brgphy1: no media present
I've asked to have the cable moved to the bge0 connector.
I would have expected brgphy0 to also support 1000baseT, though...

I'll do the latter. We have more-or-less identical machines
sitting on a shelf, unpowered.
