On my machine running 6.0/hdaudio(4)

  audioplay sound.wav

produces a high-pitched high-volume _monotone_ squeak and low-volume sound.
dmesg and pcictl output is below. With azalia(4) driver everything works fine
without squaks. 5.1/azalia(4) also works fine.
