 The machine behind this bug report is now at 4.0.1, with the last set
 of fixes described in the PR to physio and st, and it appears to be
 working correctly (here meaning, as expected based on the tape model
 outlined above).  If (the -current equivalent of) those changes goes
 in, I would say this PR can be closed.
