Re: port-i386/43168: CD boot image fails to find root file system + (half)dead keyboard

The following reply was made to PR port-i386/43168; it has been noted by GNATS.

 Oh, BTW,

 the boot block says:

 NetBSD/x86 cd9660 Primary Bootstrap

 >> NetBSD/x86 BIOS Boot, Revision 5.4 (from NetBSD 5.99.27)
 >> Memory: 630/1047488 k
Press return to boot now, any other key for boot menu

Now, it turns out the keyboard is not *completely* dead, it appears to
detect about 1 in 50 keystrokes. This lead me to try to point the
install image in the direction of the preexisting root file system on
the harddisk, only to discover that the kernel doesn't have the ffs
module loaded at that time (only supports cd9660). When I try to give
it cd0a as root file system, it says "use one of md0[a-p] fxp0
 wd2[a-p] fd0[a-p] wd0[a-p] wd1[a-p] ddb halt reboot" -- it's as if
it's not found the cd drive during autoconfig. Grumble, I wonder if
this is related to me using a separate plug-in card for the SATA disks
I'm trying to do data recovery with. ... Which revealed another gripe:
it appears that the boot disk has restore, but not dump on it, forcing
me to make my own custom install CD *with* dump on it... =
