the AHCI-mode SATA cdrom drive should be supported in netbsd-4; can you try
an iso from ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-4/ and see
if it works for you ?
As for the USB CD drive, I don't know why it was not found. the boot messages
would help here.
