While I'm sympathetic to the complaint, the plausible alternative option (-N)
is already taken, the default behavior should be the way it is, and plus now
it's eight years later and everyone's used to it and has it in their scripts
and stuff. So it's not going to get fixed and leaving the PR suspended for
later attention isn't the right thing.
