1. Use POSIX (US-ASCII) locale:

$ unset LANG LC_CTYPE LC_ALL LC_whatever

2. Use US-ASCII charset in lynx:

$ fgrep character_set= ~/.lynxrc
character_set=7 bit approximations (US-ASCII)

3. Use custom .lss file (attached):
