Thank you very much - I applied the patch tonight and can confirm that 
the group query now works:

I did my previous tests with Samba 4.12.3. For the patch, I used the 
version from current, which is now at 4.12.5. To be on the safe side, I 
have provisioned the entire domain again and also rejointed the Windows 
client - so this still works with 4.12.5. Great!
