Cannot really comment about 32bit compatibility but I've been using Wine64 
(from wip) under 9.99.23 (with NetBSD -8 userland) quite successfully. I use 
it to run Memory Map (mapping software) version 5.0 from 2005. It works really 
well and while I have had seen a few glitches, these also happen on Windows 
7...
