Modular i2c driver not attaching

I've just built and installed a 5.99.61 kernel and modules.  I 
pre-loaded the iic module (as well as other modules) via the boot 
loader's "load" command.

Yet, the driver fails to attach my i2cbus:

...
piixpm0 at pci0 dev 20 function 0: vendor 0x1002 product 0x4385 (rev. 0x41)
iic at piixpm0 not configured
...

Am I doing something wrong?
