Yeah, it works much better on the raw device. After 10 minutes, the rate has remained constant at 100MBytes/sec. And I can even run a second dd on the other prospective raid member and they _both_ run at 100MByte/sec.

Which would tend to put the focus of the initial problem back on raidframe, since it was taking about 50 hours to initialize parity. The drives obviously can handle sustained heavy write activity.
