how to set the disk scheduler?

how to change the disk scheduler
host to select the disk scheduler
(added so searches will find this thread and will not re-thread)

I've compiled in READPRIO and PRIOCSCAN scheduling methods on top of the two defaults, I would like to specify which scheduler is used.
I feel this will have to be done at compile time which seems annoying. Also, I found this thread:

which provides a unifed diff patch for dkctl to do just that (for wd and sd devices at least, i'm using sd so i would benefit), but the patch is not available on the ftp anymore and has not been incorporated into dkctl current.
