problem with um?

Using the latest snap of netbsd-5, I am unable to configure IP addresses on my
ethernet interfaces.

Something like the following will seem to be taken without errors,

ifconfig um0 inet x.x.x.x netmsk x.x.x.x

but them the device will remain unconfigured.

I also configured a vlan on um0 and it exhibits the same behavior...  I can
create it, but it remains unconfigurable.

        Something with the um driver, or am I forgetting some new thing that
must be done now?
