converting to native xorg

I'm converting a system from pkgsrc xorg to native xorg.  When I try to
run firefox, I get this:

Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration.
Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>/var/cache/fontconfig</cachedir>
Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>~/.fontconfig</cachedir>

followed by a core dump.  Presumably, there's some old configuration
lying around that I need to zap.
