They disabled all their up/down scripts so there was no firewall or
other networking actions done apart from ppp going down/up and the
messages are still being seen.  The types of the objects involved seem
to be network related so it seems to point at the ppp layer - perhaps
data in-flight when the connection dropped?

The person is using a usb modem (fwiw)
