I'm seeing that too, with a somewhat simpler input file:
\documentstyle{article}
\begin{document}
\pagestyle{empty}
$\sum$
\end{document}
\end

If I comment out the pagestyle, so that I get a page number,
adding one more embedded font subset, the output is OK.
I've just updated the gs pkg to fix a security problem, but
this doesn't change anything.
