I did mail my fix to the author, he requested a debug dump from
wpa_supplicant which I provided.  His considered opinion is that, in
my case,the problem lays with either the iwi driver or the 802.11
layer in NetBSD.  I am thinking that he may be right here because if I
use a ath wireless interface instead of the intel iwi then the
wireless connection seems rock solid with an unmodified
wpa_supplicant.

Unfortunately, the laptop that has the intel wireless interface now
has a dead hard disk which I need to get fixed before I can chase this
down.
