As someone else said: webdav is nice. If that ends up not being and option 
I'd go with https and usability with:
http://www.phpxplorer.org/

Real easy to setup and most _users_ find the interface intuitive (or at 
least understandable).

(They even talk about a subversion module - whether that will happen is 
antoher question.)
