I can't help with the core itself, but...I think rpc.statd is a daemon
which either forks or is forked by something else (the portmapper?).
This leads me to ask, could it be that either the coredump came from a
forked child and you're seeing the parent still running, or once it
coredumped whatever is responsible for starting it forked another one,
so you're seeing not "continued to run" but "is running again"?
