With all due respect and no bad feelings, that's plain ugly. Symlinks in /etc
are _ugly_ (yes, I am very opinionated about that). The whole point of having
config files and scripts is to tweak them when needed. None of them should
have 'blessed' status and rc.d/* is no exception. Scripts are not binaries,
really. If you are concerned about binaries in /etc, remove /etc/rmt and fix
dump and tar.
