My impression is that portable Makefiles are next to useless, even if
they only have to cover the major dialects without getting Solaris Make
involved. So yes, unless they are generated by a tooling, they are
pretty much irrelevant at this point. Generated Makefiles at this point
are also pretty much legacy only as all modern (read: developed in this
century) tools now target alternatives like Ninja. I don't see how
POSIX changes in this area are helpful or why we should care.
