I don't think it ever will.  The day after it is done and dusted,
someone will find another mistake.  Instead, accept this. Perform a
conversion that is sufficient for commiting new changes (cough) going
forward (tm).  Then, at the same time have an historically correct
repo (or branch) that can be rebuilt to fix historical inaccuracies,
or to graft on the latest changes.
