Leaf package (no hard side effect besides pkg itself) For getmail-5: - requires python 2 - unmaintained - few bugs that were (and never will be) fixed unless using -6 For getmail-6: - python 3 support- fixes that prevented it to work correctly under MacOS and NetBSD (upstreamed now) - unless "forcing" -5 to -6, getmail will remain in -5, so little opportunity to get more onboarded to the new version.
If we have version 5 and 6 now, and 6 doesn't work for everyone, I think I would prefer for the removal to happen after the branch.
-6 should work for everyone, it is the project's purpose to be a 1:1 replacement for getmail-5.
I have no problem with keeping a getmail5 package around. Both can live together -- ATM this is actually the case.
