You can give it a try again and report back to me. The multiprocessing part
of getmail was messy (which is pretty much what getmail uses for filtering
and delivering).
I had to track down a few bugs, notably one that involved "infinite" thread
sleep because it originally used pthread condvar for signal handler
synchronization. That could deadlock even on GNU/Linux depending on
scheduling [1]

That could've been my issue, but now I'm just using imapsync and no
procmail.
I just brought it up in case there were others who had the same issue.
Removing it after the freeze would be my choice, but I don't think I
should be the decider here.
