I think we have a blend of two notions: use capitalization of upstream's package name convert name to lower case You said PKGNAME, but I wonder if you mean PKGPATH? A quick look at directory names via ls -d */*[A-Z]*|egrep -v '(packages|wip|x|otstrap|distfiles|doc)/'|egrep -v '(Makefile|CVS)' | egrep -v '/(py|R|p5|pear)-' got me 310 PKGPATHs. Note that this excludes python/R/perl/pear. Adding those in, I get 3080. So I guess if it is semi-normal for this to be openipmi in other packaging systems that seems fine. But I can't say "pkgsrc has an established notion of not using upper case in PKGPATH/PKGNAME".
